Featured Artist: July 2020

The July edition of pcPolyzine features polymer clay artist, Eleonora Casciario!

Eleonora Casciario is a 34-year-old artist who lives in Italy and enjoys working with polymer clay!

We wanted to learn more about Eleonora and here's what she shared with us:

pcPolyzine: How did you get into polymer clay?
Eleonora: In 2013, I started to get passionate about working with polymers. Initially, I made small sweets. I then moved onto making pendants and added small fairies or mermaids. Then in 2015, my attention turned to the world of ooak and from that moment, a completely new world opened up to me.

pcPolyzine: How long have you been working with polymer clay?
Eleonora: I have been working with polymer clay since about 2013—at least that's when I really got into it.

pcPolyzine: What inspires you to create pieces in polymer clay?
Eleonora: To create my dolls, I take inspiration from photographs, other images, and even from my own imagination. It just depends on the inspiration I have at the moment.

pcPolyzine: What's your favorite piece or project you've made in polymer clay?
Eleonora: I don't have a preference for one of my creations over another, in particular. I love them all. However, when I make a sculpture, I always try to improve on the previous one.

pcPolyzine: What are your favorite (or most important) tools you use when working with clay?
Eleonora: Since much of my work is creating sculptures, I mainly use tools like the scalpel, burins, scallop, awl, wooden stick, silicone brushes, and various steel tools with different tips.

pcPolyzine: Do you have any advice for new artists to polymer clay?
Eleonora: To all those who would like to approach the world of polymers, I can only say that you will enter a world of a thousand shades! You will need manual skills, but also a lot of curiosity. You will need patience and always try to improve yourself. Work to achieve the best you have and be self-critical. Never be satisfied with what you do. Even I find myself sculpting a face 10 or more times if I'm not satisfied with the results.

pcPolyzine: Any final thoughts for our readers?
Eleonora: It is a fantastic world where unique work can be created, and each of them will forever retain a part of us.

pcPolyzine: Eleonora, your sculptures are beautiful and very realistic. We are excited to share your work with the pcPolyzine community. Thank you for taking time to share with us!
